Playback Attack

Playback attacks are a form of attack whereby one records the details of a transaction and then tries to gain access by replaying a facsimile of the recording at a later time.

AmeriSys proximity Smart Card systems are designed to contain accounts and sensitive information. AmeriSys readers have means to authenticate Smart Cards. AmeriSys Smart Cards also have means to authenticate readers. Moreover, any communication session between a Smart Card and a reader is encrypted by a randomly selected cryptographic sequence. Together, these means effectively detect and resist playback attacks.

Since AmeriSys products vary the cryptographic sequence on each transaction, playing back a transaction with an old sequence fails.
